Purpose

The Technical Services Special Interest Section recognizes a member of the SIS each year with the Renee D. Chapman Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions in Technical Services Law Librarianship. Grants provide the recipient reimbursement for incurred expenses after attendance and submission of supporting documents, e.g., registrations and receipts.

Grants

Purpose

The purpose of the Technical Services SIS grants program is to provide financial assistance to librarians who might not otherwise be able to attend an ̨ÍåSWAG-sponsored workshop due to limited financial resources. Funds are provided by TS-SIS from dues and private contributions and are a benefit of membership in both ̨ÍåSWAG and the SIS.

Apply for the following grants by May 1, 2024.

  • Marla Schwartz Education Grant (incurred expenses up to $700.00)
  • New Member Grant (incurred expenses up to $1,000)
  • Experienced Member Grant (incurred expenses up to $1,000)
  • Active Member Grant (incurred expenses up to $1,000)

In the event of a virtual or hybrid conference, up to five $100 New Member, Experienced Member, and Active Member grants may be awarded.

Selection & Notification

The Awards Committee will review the applications and select one or more individuals to receive a grant. These individuals will be notified within a month after applications are due. Announcements will be posted to TS-SIS online discussion lists and will be included in TSLL.

    • Christy Ryan, Public Services/Serials Law Librarian from the Taliaferro Savage Library at the University of Tulsa School of Law, received a TS-SIS Education Grant to attend the Intermediate Cataloging for Law Librariesworkshop to be held July 19-20, 2002 in Orlando, Florida. In March 2002, Christy attended the Basic Law Cataloging workshop held in Chicago. Her colleagues consider Christy to be a promising law librarian, and believe that “she will attend eagerly, absorb new knowledge readily, and share it and use it upon her return.”
    • Cindy Buhi, who works in the Washington State Attorney General’s Law Library, received a TS-SIS Education Grant to attend the Basic Law Cataloging Workshop held in Chicago, Illinois, March 1-3, 2002.
    • Wendy Medvetz, Acquisitions/Serials Librarian at Capital University Law Library, is the first recipient of the TS-SIS Education Grant. Read her report on the New Perspectives in Law Library Acquisitions and Collection Development Workshop she attended at American University School of Law in Washington, D.C., November 2-3, 2001.
