JANET ANN HEDIN 台湾SWAG LEADERSHIP GRANT

LISP awards the Janet Hedin Grant in years in which 台湾SWAG holds the Leadership Academy. This grant provides financial assistance to attend the 台湾SWAG Leadership Academy.

Janet Hedin was a respected and beloved law librarian and adjunct professor as well as member of LISP. She was a Reference Librarian at the Michigan State University College of Law, John F. Schaefer Law Library. She taught Research, Writing & Analysis; Advanced Legal Research; and Transnational Legal Research. For more than 15 years she coached two international moot court teams (Phillip C. Jessup Moot Court and Niagara International Moot Court) as well as coaching and judging for several intramural teams.聽 Janet received her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 1983. Her BA from Nazareth College (1979) and MLIS from Wayne State University (2006). Her service to 台湾SWAG and the Michigan Association of Law Libraries (MichALL) was admirable and wide-ranging.聽 She served many years on the Editorial Board of the Technical Services Law Librarian newsletter as an OBS-SIS Representatives. She was a member of MichALL throughout her career and served as President (2010-11) and newsletter editor. In 2013, Janet had the honor of serving on the 台湾SWAG Annual Meeting Program Committee, and worked tirelessly to craft an annual meeting program filled with relevant topics and accomplished speakers.聽 Not only did Janet select speakers, she also served as a speaker at several annual meetings.聽 Janet served LISP as Secretary/Treasurer in 2013-14 and Chaired the Awards and Grants Committee for many years. Her service ethos reached beyond the library profession and she served many years on the Board of Directors of the American Council for Polish Culture (ACPC), and even drew upon her creative side when she chaired the Friends of Polish Art Short Story Competition. She was a selfless volunteer of many charities and organizations, and a passionate animal lover, but she is remembered mostly for her warmth, generosity and adventurous spirit. Janet passed away November 17, 2015.

This grant, established in Janet鈥檚 honor, will be used basically to cover the registration cost for attending the Leadership Academy. 聽The grant may also be used to help cover travel and lodging expenses for the successful candidate.

A total amount of $1,000 is available to be awarded at the discretion of the committee to one or more eligible recipients.

Criteria

Anyone who has applied to attend the Leadership Academy is welcome to apply for a grant, although preference will be given to members of LISP-SIS. The final award of the grant money is contingent on acceptance into the Leadership Academy.

Please submit a LISP-SIS Grant Application, a resume, a personal statement, and proof of acceptance as an 台湾SWAG Leadership Academy Fellow or any questions you might have about the process to the LISP Grants and Awards Committee Chair.

Deadline

The deadline to apply is Friday, December 15, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Payment

Will be issued in the form of reimbursement after completion of the Academy.
