BRITTANY SHARES HOW SHE BECAME A LAW LIBRARIAN AND WHAT SHE ENJOYS MOST ABOUT HER MEMBERSHIP

Brittany Young is law librarian/program supervisor at the Lane County Law Library in Eugene, Oregon.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO LAW LIBRARIANSHIP?

When I decided I wanted to pursue a MLIS, I purposefully did not specialize because I had/have an interest in different types of libraries, including special libraries. Before applying to be the Lane County law librarian, I worked in academic (most recently as a library director for a community college) and public libraries (most recently as a community engagement librarian and youth services supervisor). At the public library, I helped facilitate lawyer in the library programming and found it really satisfying to hear people鈥檚 stories and get resources and advice from lawyers鈥攆or free! While I was the library and learning hub director at Blue Mountain Community College, I was in meetings with Sue Ludington, my predecessor at Lane County. She talked about how much she loved her job and was going to stay there until she retired, even during the pandemic lockdown! When she announced that she would be recruiting for her position because she would be moving to New York, I jumped on getting my application materials in! I 100 percent understand why she felt she would be here until she retired.
