̨ÍåSWAG

Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Policy

Approved by the Executive Board, July 2022, Tab 11

The ̨ÍåSWAG (̨ÍåSWAG) is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in who we are and in what we do.

We welcome and value diversity, going beyond visible differences to affirm the essence that makes each person who they are and to encourage an organizational culture that can be an example to the community we serve.

We believe that our greatest asset lies in our understanding of the broad range of members, partners, and stakeholders we represent. By modeling diversity, equity, and inclusion, ̨ÍåSWAG serves the unique needs of our members to accomplish our mission, vision, and goals.

Diversity

̨ÍåSWAG respects, values, and celebrates the unique attributes, characteristics, and perspectives that make each person who they are. We actively seek out diversity of participation, thought and action. This includes age; ethnicity; gender; gender identity; language differences; nationality; parental status; physical, mental, and developmental abilities; race; religion; sexual orientation; skin color; socioeconomic status; education; work and behavioral styles; the perspectives of each individual shaped by their nation, experiences, and culture.

It is our intention that our members, partners, stakeholders, and vendors reflect and embrace these values.

Equity

̨ÍåSWAG believes in equal, fair, and just distribution of power, support, and resources. Equity transcends fairness, creating an environment that fosters needed access and opportunity for everyone – especially those who have suffered the most from systemic oppression.

̨ÍåSWAG acknowledges that everyone starts from and exists in a different place. We elevate individuals by proactively identifying and removing unintentional barriers that may impede access and success within our organization. We strive to promote and apply justice, impartiality and fairness within the procedures, processes, and distribution of the Association’s resources.

Inclusion

̨ÍåSWAG commits to provide an environment where individuals in our profession feel valued, respected, supported, and welcome to bring their authentic selves to the Association. Inclusive practices are those that include an active, intentional, meaningful, and equitable engagement across the diversity of our ̨ÍåSWAG community.  This includes fostering an environment of belonging.

Our Commitment

  • Maintain an open, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone.
  • Create spaces where all are encouraged to actively engage, listen, speak, and act with respect.
  • Listen to, learn from, and amplify the voices of historically marginalized and underrepresented people.
  • Build equitable relationships with a broad base of stakeholders across social, economic, and political divides.
  • Continue to evolve and evaluate our thinking, practices and policies around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
